News & Events

ParkFest Event. Fantastic weekend for everyone. So many highlights it's hard to add them all here. Our ponies did a wonderful job and all volunteers had a great time meeting people and enjoying the sunshine. Pictures below are volunteer Sandra dressed up looking stunning in her Victorian Costume with pony Stan pulling the cart, also pony ride Leo happily grazing.

Spirit Of Odin.. Finds a new forever home. Our wonderful pony Spirit Of Odin has been adopted and has a lovely new owner. Our field officer Ben who has looked after Odin since his birth can now officially call him his own pony. On transferring him Corinne said he could not be in better hands, we are all looking forward to seeing him at various shows around the Wirral in the near future. We will have some lovely pictures to follow soon.

Our volunteers of the month. Becca and Stu,  for all the wonderful work they have done working at neston with the horses and ponies. They are a credit to Sandra who brings them along each day. Some of the ponies have made a great recovery and are becoming so friendly, thanks to the groundwork the kids have done with them.

Pets At Home. We would like to say a massive thank you to Tim and his team at Pets at Home in Bromborough, Support Adoption for Pets and everyone who bought a raffle ticket this Summer. As we've just been given a cheque for a whopping £437.57, all of which will go towards feeding our ponies and will help to pay for essential vets bills this Winter, Thank you for all your support from the volunteers and ponies at the sanctuary 😍

Equine Student. Well done to Margaret, spending a week with us to do some of her horsemanship training. Studying at Edinburgh she is soon to be taking a position at Leahurst equine college. She did have a soft spot for our lovely Polish rescued horse Karina and sweet Emily.

Passing of Buddy. It is with deep regret I have to announce the passing of our very dear friend and wonderful pony, Buddy. He fell ill 3 weeks ago and never really fully recovered from it. He will be missed so much by everyone. He will be forever in our hearts. Buddy jumping and with best friend Odin pictured below.

Hallowe'en Party. A great day for everyone, lots of ponies to groom and dress up, pony rides for the kids. In the cafe we had cakes cookies choccies. and hot drinks. Odin was just a star. He arrived and went to see his old friend Buddy who is at the stables feeling a lil under the weather. We had some light rain but that never stopped us having pony fun.

AGILTY COURSE. Completed by our foal Spirit Of Odin.  With many thanks to our resident horsemanship expert, Master of the Horse, he was able to take Odin through the agility course. After only 15 mins Odin was going round cones, jumping rails and walking through the scary hoops and along the narrow ground rails. We were amazed to see how quickly he got used to the objects till at one point he was trotting along with 2 large noisy hoops on his back. Lots of pics being posted shortly. If you would like to have a lesson about horsemanship or any kind of horse behavior send us a message using our contact page.

Wirral Copper Jar to the rescue. Calgary, One of our rescued ponies recently had to have one of his eyes removed due to a very serious condition behind the eye. After consulting with the professor's at Leahurst Hospital it was decided that was the best option for him. The cost as always is very high, but we had a fabulous donation of £75 raised by the Wirral Copper Jar. Full story about Calgary coming soon. please check back.

More Agility Days. By popular demand we are continuing with our Agility Days for horses and ponies. Everyone has been asking when we are starting again, check with us on our open days at Parkgate. As always of course, our team does prefer to use the more recognized courses of newsite: IntelligentHorsemanship.Co. Liberty at its best with guest. The Master of the Horse.

Spirit Of Odin. Our foal is now a yearling. A year has past so quick. We took Odin and his best pal buddy to Parkgate for a party. It was a great success, lots of people came to see him. He really enjoyed his specially made pony cake. Just oats and pony feed, how good was that.

Lilly resting with her poorly foot. During our daily checks at Neston fields we discovered Lilly was quite lame. On examining her we found she has an abscess in her back right foot. We took her to the safety and quiet of Highfield stables where the farrier worked on her foot and gave her much needed release from the stress she was in. Today she is much better having had a nice feed and a few carrots. She has a new lovely colour dressing on and now she has decided to lay back and let us pamper her.

.

Walton Festival huge success. Our trip to Walton for the festival was just brilliant. So many people came to meet us and have a chat about our sanctuary. We raised our profile immensely with the lovely people of Liverpool . The sun was shining for us both days and our super vaulting team gave some fabulous displays. It was very well organized was had a fabulous time. We cant wait for next year.

Welfare Officer Celebrates.

Great News our welfare officer has just completed ten years looking after the welfare of our sanctuary horses. Its fantastic that some people give up so many hours of their time to help keep horse safe from harm. A huge hearty well done to Linda for all her gallant services.

We are very please to announce we have added to our wonderful team of volunteers this week two highly skilled maintenance workers. They have already been hard at work fixing doors, gutters, fences, gates, quad bike and our tractor has been serviced ready to run again. Bob & Gary are a father and son team who have some much knowledge between them its really, just awesome.

Well done to Charlotte from Liverpool Uni on passing her Equine Horsemanship course with us last week. She will go on to Leahurst next term to continue to study to be an equine vet. She will be working soon at a racing yard in Yorkshire. Here she is relaxing with the ponies after passing all course sections with flying colours.

Our wonderful volunteer vaulters

Open day Event. We have full story and pictures coming soon. Once again we had amazing support from our volunteers and the lovely people of the Wirral and North West. We can never thank you enough. Some families travelled over 30 miles to come and see our Party Panto and the lovely Shetties. They want to support a caring pony sanctuary.. Now..that's just amazing.

Neston School. Pupils at Neston school did a fantastic fundraising scheme for us, raising over £260. We have to say a huge thank you to all the students and teachers who were involved. Why not ask your school and teachers if you can do some fundraising to help our ponies stay well.

Strangles on the Wirral

Strangles is a very bad disease affecting horses. Some cases have been discovered on the Wirral. As precaution we have decided to stop all movement of our horses for 2 weeks. Please Note: We do not have strangles at our sanctuary and every care is being taken to keep it that way.  Our open day events on 25/26th June will not be affected and will go ahead as planned.

Linda & Ally with the Kids.

What nice surprise today, we had a family plus, come visit our stables bringing with them a £52 donate made by the kids doing a cake sale. They kids went to see Odin & Buddy then decided to sponsor them for the coming year. We had a cute shetland for them to groom and walk with on the track. It is people like this that make our sanctuary a great place to be. A huge Highfield Stables thankyou to everyone.

Ness Community Hall

What a great day for us all, being invited to take part in the Ness community show.  Our vaulting team gave a super display. Ponies at the top of the field were busy doing pony rides and the field was set out so good for the dog show. In the hall there was lots of cakes and drinks to be had. Corrine was delighted to be invited as a judge for 2 of the events. We will certainly go again to visit  this warm welcoming community group.

Cruise Party Night: A huge Thankyou to all who came along to enjoy a great night of music dance and some wonderful food. The evening set off with a fun line dance that everyone could do and found out they could dance! The catering was done by Linda who did excess herself with her special ask-for-more recipe. Quiz time and it was a tie break, won by a Greasby equestrian member. Prize of the night was a trip to Liverpool for 6 people to have a Karaoke TukTuk ride. It was auctioned off and won by Katies group.

The evening was made more special by the attendance of Wirral Beauty Queen Aly Pemberton. Who did, oddly enough pose for some pictures with everyone. Ha.Ha. The DJ was on top form playing all the fav and some special requests, followed by some very crazy karaoke. Closing down to the ever popular, We are sailing home again, brought our evening to a happy end. We did raise a huge amount of money for our ponies.

Thankyou to all who came to our Easter Pony fundraiser, we all had a great time with the egg hunting and the pony rides. The weather was wet and windy but we still had a lovely turnout of people who came along to support us. Raising a huge amount of money for our sanctuary. Odin was of course the star as people came to see him for the first time. Cakes donated and so many easter eggs were brought that we are going to take then to foster homes around the wirral. They will be much appreciated by the children.

Lollipop passes away

It is sad to hear the Lollipop has passed away from having colic. She was born into the sanctuary in 1997. She has been in a loving home with Andrea for over 10 years and will be sadly missed by us all. We can't thank you enough Andrea for all your dedication and the love you gave to our wonderful horse Lollipop.

Odin foal update

Our foal Spirit Of Odin is back at the stables after having a small operation. He has been gelded and also had a microchip insert, along with his brand new passport.     So he is now resting in his stable for today. He will be taken out for a short walk later this evening, before he gets his antibiotics and feed. The vet was very pleased with his progress and says has made lots of friends at Leahurst.

Odin has to go into Leahurst on 15th March, he is to be gelded and while he is there he will have his booster jabs, also will be micro chipped and have his passport done. This is a time when all our hard work will pay off, by making it as stress free for him as we can. Full story here.

Our super awesome foal is growing so fast it looks like he will be 15 hands at least. Our pony trainer has been looking after him and he now has had head collar with lead rope and has been walking/led in the yard, that is without his mum there. He has been so well behaved when asked to do some little things. We know he can jump as he did that last week, he jumped out of his field into the walkway. Now that did surprise everyone. We will be keeping an extra special eye on him in future. What a little scamp he is. Jan/16

Pets at Home.

We had a great time at Br/Boro. The staff were so helpful giving us a special place inside the store. We took our shetland pony Charlie Small who was good as gold all day. People were so surprised to see a pony in store, the reaction was great. All the kids were wanting to pat his head or stroke him. Donation's came from so many people wanting to help, we do thank everyone of you. Our volunteers took turns looking after Charlie, between going for a sandwich and a drink. We are back again in a few weeks, so please call in the store and say hello to us as you purchase your goods. Jan/16

 Xmas Grotto News.

It was a very Rainy day at our Grotto, but so many people still came to support us and meet Santa. We had wet pony rides, wet clothes and wet shoes, but you can see from the photos we were all smiling and had a great time. We did enjoy a mince pie and a hot drink. Mulled wine for the adults went very well. Santa's grotto looked really great. A big hearty thank you to all staff from the garden centre for looking after us so well. Dec/15

July Open Day

Our open day last week was great so many people came along to visit us. We had so many attractions, from the power rangers visit to our own vaulting team, who put on a super display. We had Elsa from Frozen she was a great favourite with with the children.

Bikers on Bikes raising money by doing a 24 hour sit in or on their bikes. We had Gymnastics from our vaulting team, who had only been in training for 3 weeks so well done to everyone.

1 A donation of Cakes and buns from Sarah who kindly donated a huge stack of cakes and treats.  They did sell I have to say like Hot Cakes. We have to give a huge thank you for her generosity.

2 Welcome the Power Rangers. They came and performed some fantastic acrobatic movements for us on our open day. We have some new junior vaulting members who also performed for us.

New Foal

Just arrived today a new baby at the sanctuary. A wonderful foal born to a horse we rescued only the day before. We can report both Mare and Foal are well and doing just fine.

It seems this little foal is going to have a wonderful life with so many people wanting to care for it at the sanctuary. Click on this link to see how our foal is progressing. Spirit
